Top Hill station

Darjeeling Tour Package offers a glimpse into the best hill stations and scenic spots in the region, each with its unique charm. Here’s a brief guide to some must-visit hill stations:

Siliguri

Siliguri is often referred to as the “gateway to the northeast” of India, and lies right on the banks of the Mahananda River. Nestled between the Himalayan foothills and the Dooars region of West Bengal, Siliguri is the perfect place to escape. Being at the interface of the hills, tea gardens and also a detached corner in a peaceful valley, if it’s not perfect for anyone wanting things both wild and tranquil then I don’t know what more needs to be done. Whether passing through on your way to higher points above the plains or staying over for any length of time, Siliguri provides an environment that is calm, scenic and very restful.

Gangtok

The capital city of SikkimGangtok, is one of the most stunning hill towns near Darjeeling. It’s famous for its breathtaking views and proximity to the Nathu La and Jelep La mountain passes, which connect India with Tibet. Gangtok is also known for its beautiful winter landscapes, where snow adds a magical touch to the scenery, especially within the Eastern Himalayan Range. Whether you’re there for the adventure or the natural beauty, Gangtok offers a peaceful and picturesque escape.

Kalimpong

One of the first things that catches your eye in Kalimpong is the beautiful flower market pouring with colors and fragrances. Because of its location along the Teesta River, you can see clouds of morning mist and thick fog hugging mountain slopes every day. Kalimpong lies under a bare sky, sheltered by its large number of peaks with seasonal snow. Indeed, Kalimpong possesses to this day many beautiful churches which are relics of British colonial architecture and stand as silent witnesses to history. The charming weather, splendid landscape, and compelling history of Kalimpong have all made it a place worth visiting.

Tinchuley

The lovely hill landscape of Tinchuley lies on the northern boundary of West Bengal, bordering Sikkim. If you wish to disengage from the hustle of modern life and find a place which has a calm and spiritual setting, then Tinchuley is the place for you. The name comes from “Chula” and “tin” meaning three ovens, associated with the three characteristically hill shaped areas that look like traditional roti ovens.

Tinchuley is extremely quiet, making it suitable for meditation or taking a stroll. The lush greenery added to the already peaceful environment makes it a great location to relieve stress.

Mirik

Mirik is the perfect destination for tourists looking for the best sunset views and have a clear view of the mountain Kanchenjunga. It is a less crowded tourist spot which is great for a soothing trip offering complete peace of mind and relaxation to recharge your energies.

Mirik’s climate is its strongest asset, making it a tourist spot for the whole year. Mirik’s natural beauty is known for the Mirik Lake, the pine forests, and the tea garden, making it even more beautiful. So, if you want to have a peaceful vacation away from the bustling noise of the cities or just looking for a nice place to take a vacation, Mirik will not fail to impress you with the relaxing environment and lush greenery.

What to Eat in Darjeeling

Momos

Although momos have permeated many metropolitan cities as a common snack, they are highly regarded as one of the cherished foods in Darjeeling. These are a type of dimpled dumpling made of refined wheat flour and could either be steamed or fried; sometimes, the fillings consist of either chicken, vegetable or pork or in the case of Tibetan cuisine, they could come with all. Steamed or deep-fried, momos are served in a set of six or seven pieces and a hot bowl of soup is often served on the side to complete the meal.

Aloo dum

Darjeeling is famous for Aloo Dum, which is a classic Bengali dish that is said to have originated from Naga cuisine. Aloo Dum is the locals’ favorite and consists of potato chunks cooked in a rich gravy that contains red chili powder, garlic, ginger, finely cut onions, and spices. In addition, the people of Darjeeling cherish it a lot, so it is not something you want to miss out on.

Sha Phalay

Sha Phalay is equally as famous in Darjeeling as it is with the Tibetans. The main ingredient consists of bread that is filled with meat and is usually accompanied by vegetables, chutney, or curry. It is often served alongside toasted barley referred to as Tsampa. Sha Phalay is classic Tibetan food so if you enjoy meats, this is a must try.

Sael Roti

The infamous Sael Roti from Nepal is also delicious, especially when served at home on special occasions. They take rice paste and deep fry it into flat circular pieces resembling bagels. The perfect Sael Roti has a crispy outer layer and soft inside, so it’s no wonder many people love it.

Churpee

One of the local delicacies from Darjeeling is Churpees made from yak or cow’s milk. Like cheese, churpees can be soft or hard. Churpees are often used in vegetable momos where they are mixed with cabbage and step up the taste. In the Nepali cuisine, churpees are also used to make a tangy dish called ‘Churpee ko achaar’ with onions, tomatoes and green chilies. This super adaptable ingredient is an essential in the traditional cooking of this area.

Naga Cuisine

Even though there are fewer assertive people residing in Darjeeling, the Naga influence remains strong in the local cuisine. Naga food is well-known for its deep tastes, especially concerning the meats and seafood, which are usually smoked and fermented. A classic Naga thali consists of fermented rice with fermented bamboo shoots, achaar, a sweet dish, and chicken or pork on the side. Naga cuisine makes strong claims in the food diversity of Darjeeling, which is already rich in diversity.

Thukpa

Hakka noodles, vegetables, and a blend of spices boiled together in a pot make thukpa, a comforting noodle soup. While it became popular in Darjeeling, thukpa is originally a Tibetan dish. Residents of the local community cherish it, and it can be found in almost every restaurant as well as the street food stalls in the region. For travelers in and around Darjeeling, thukpa is perfect for eating on the go or for having a sit-down meal.

Culture Of Darjeeling

Lepchas, also known as Rongpa – which translates to ‘people from the valley’ – are believed to be the first people to have settled in the Darjeeling Hills. Despite this being true, there is still a part of their history that remains a mystery. Their physical features suggest they could be of Mongolian descent. Another subset are known as the Khampas, who tend to be more ferocious and adventurous than their gentler Lepcha counterparts. The Khampas are also said to be the more recently settled Tibetans.

The predominant populace of the Darjeeling Hills are made up of the Gorkhas, who are known to be extremely hardworking and business oriented. Their military skills help them gain a lot of respect throughout the world. The Gorkhas are originally from Nepal and during British and Indian rule, they were often hired for their courageous nature, with some even winning a Victoria Cross. They are also known to carry a curved knife called khukri as a signature weapon.

Newars – also known as Sherpas – are another prominent community in Darjeeling. They have gained immense popularity due to their strength and bravery while mountain climbing. This has allowed them to gain a reputation as essential guides for various expeditions in the Himalayas. Similarly, Bhutias also make up a large population of Darjeeling. They migrate from diverse places like Tibet, Bhutan, Sikkim and Siliguri.

There are a variety of aspects where students can leverage their time and talents, lifestyle of students is an important one as well as in the context of educational innovation and the enhancement of knowledge gained through education. This is imperative to consider as students reflect upon their lifestyle choices. The modern student’s choice and activities include healthy, fitness, recreation, sport, social, cultural use of leisure time, and attentive toward the intellectual development of children. In a deeper sense, here varies the relationship between a student as a teacher in the modern world. Wherein, exercise on objective, part of my lesson, managing classes with students.

Famous Festivals of Darjeeling

In Darjeeling, there are many unique local festivals celebrated alongside the major ones like Durga Puja, Diwali, Saraswati Puja, and Shivratri. For example, the Tibetans celebrate their New Year with special Devil Dances at their monasteries, which take place from the last week of February to March. The Lepchas and Bhutias, on the other hand, celebrate their New Year in January.

A fun part of the celebrations includes the snake or dragon dances, which twist and turn through the streets, similar to the Chinese tradition. You can also see strong folk dances, such as the Libus’ “Chabrung,” the Tamangs’ “Damfu,” and the lively Maruni, which is the most popular. The air is filled with beautiful folk songs like “Jhowre,” about a lover, and “Juhari,” which tells the story of a couple in love.
