The History of City Palace
The City Palace was built a long time ago by King Sawai Jai Singh II in the 17th century. He wanted to move the capital from Amber to Jaipur, and this palace was his home. Later, more buildings were added, making it even bigger. King Raja Man Singh II was the last king to live here.
Architecture of City Palace
City Palace is a mix of three styles of architecture: Rajput, European, and Mughal. It is made of red and pink stones and has many courtyards and smaller palaces. Some of these smaller palaces have been turned into museums.
Inside the City Palace
- Gates and Courtyards: The palace has several gates, including Tripolia Gate, Virendra Pol, and Udai Pol. It also has four special gates in a courtyard named Pritam Niwas Chowk, each symbolizing a different season.
- Mubarak Mahal: This part of the palace was built to welcome guests. Today, it is a museum that displays royal clothes, including Pashmina shawls and beautiful outfits with special designs.
- Chandra Mahal: Chandra Mahal is one of the most beautiful parts of the palace, with amazing mirror work and paintings. In this place you see seven floors, and each floor has a unique name. While most of Chandra Mahal is still home to the royal family, visitors can explore the ground floor museum.
