Reshi Hot Springs Gangtok Complete Travel Guide 2026

Reshi Hot Springs

Reshi Hot Springs also known as Phur Cha-chu. It is a famous natural geothermal spot in Sikkim. It is located on the banks of the Rangeet River, near a small town called Legship.

While many think it is right inside Gangtok, it is actually about 25 km to 30 km away, making it a perfect day trip or an overnight retreat.

This place is not just a tourist attraction but also a holy site. It is located near the sacred cave Lho Khandro Sang Phug (the Cave of Occult Fairies).

For centuries, pilgrims have visited these springs during the winter to soak in the water, which is rich in sulfur and other minerals.

The water temperature stays between 40°C – 50°C, and it is believed to have medicinal properties that can cure skin diseases and joint pains.

There are separate bathing areas for men and women. Because of its healing powers and peaceful river-side location, Reshi Hot Springs is a must-visit for relaxation if you are planning your Gangtok trip.

Best time to visit Reshi Hot Springs

Before planning your visit to Reshi Hot Springs, it’s important to understand how the seasons affect the water temperature and the river flow. Since the springs are located right on the riverbank, the experience changes throughout the year.

You can visit this place mainly in the cooler months to enjoy the heat of the water. Winter and Spring are considered the best seasons to visit Reshi Hot Springs.

Winter (December–February)

Winter is the best and peak season to visit Reshi Hot Springs. Because in this season, the outside temperature is very cold, and soaking in 45°C water feels amazing.

This is also the time when the “Hot Spring Festival” happens. Many pilgrims stay here in small huts for weeks to heal their bodies.

Spring (March–May)

Spring is also a great season to visit. The weather in Sikkim is very pleasant during this time, and the water flow in the Rangeet river is calm.

You can enjoy the natural beauty of the surrounding forest while relaxing in the pools. If you are planning your Gangtok trip next year, this is a very comfortable time.

Monsoon (June–September)

Monsoon is NOT recommended for visiting Reshi Hot Springs. Because of heavy rainfall, the water level of the Rangeet River rises and often overflows into the hot spring pools.

The trekking path becomes very slippery and there is a high risk of landslides on the way to Legship. Most travellers avoid this season.

Autumn (October–November)

After the rains, Autumn is a beautiful time. The river water becomes crystal clear and the mountain air is fresh. It is a good time for a day trip if you want to enjoy the scenery and a quick dip.
